future project

I like to daydream about oh-so-many things. One thing: sewing projects. I've started buying this Sew Stylish magazine and picking out projects I'd like to attempt. (Now, there's just that pesky little detail of me not being a sewing-person (a sew-er? nah). I need a lot more than a few days of my mom trying to teach me everything that she's learned in the last fifty-plus years. I need lots of practice before I really get something.)

Anyhow, here's one of the things I picked out from the Fall 2009 issue. Eventually, I think I'd like to try it.

(I apologize for the quality of my scan. The fabric is actually a solid.)

Given my short, not-thin stature, though, I think that I'd need to slim down that bow. If I could do it, it could be fun.

I took Home Ec in high school. One whole school quarter was on sewing. I was terrible. The only thing I was good at was button holes. It was weird the rest of the class struggled w them, they were supposed to be really hard, but I was great at it. For the final I had to choose a pattern and make it. I would have failed, but I ended up sewing everyone elses buttonholes, and they basically did everything else for my final project.

That top is fabulous. I think you would look amazing in that.

Ooh, I love it.

Like Kat, I had to take a semester of home ec, but in junior high. I loved the baking part of the class, but when we got to sewing, I just barrelled through it. I made a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, but the shorts were low rise, but REALLY low rise. So low I'd have been showing stuff that no one needs to see had I worn them. The shirt turned out okay, though.
