grow mane grow!

I'm posting on my hair. Yeah, I know, but I'm doing it anyhow. Mainly because I'm ready for it to be longer already. Yes, I understand I should stop cutting it, but I feel compelled to every couple of years. Last year was my year for a hair cut.*

One year ago:

It was short. I figured as long as I was going to cut it, I'd try having the back clipped really close with the electric clippers. First (and last) time for everything, no? The back of my head itched for a good three weeks. At least, that's how I'm remembering it. Plus, look at that first picture. All I can think is "It's like an orange on a toothpick!" except my neck isn't really long and thin.

Current day:

I cut the fringe (or "ribbons" as they're called around these parts) when I'm bored. I use a method that never leads to what I have in mind, yet I keep doing it. (Insanity, maybe?) This time around, I was also tired of looking at the forehead wrinkles that have been with me for over a decade now.

But not that tired of looking at them because I'm already pinning the fringe back.

-----------------

* Yes, I get haircuts every two years. I wonder if that's weird, but I have a really hard time believing that everyone else gets more frequent haircuts/trims. Also, I have no idea what shape my face is (should this be obvious?), so I never have any idea about what haircut will look good on my head.

So, for the next year, I'll just let this grow out more. I'm hoping to soon be to the point where Auntie L will accuse me of looking like a hippie.

All I wear is pjs!

And, yes, I'm referencing Between the Lions in the title there. Oh, how I miss tv sometimes. Like real, sit down and watch it when it's airing tv.

Wow! That was short. I can't believe I missed that. I really must visit more often. I like the fringe and the shoulder length.

I have been obsessing with my hair lately. I want to cut it, but I hate the maintenance of short haircuts. Hair. Such a silly thing that I spend a lot of time worrying about.

Ok, I so did not know that you had cut it so short! Wow! I like it now. That's how I always think of your hair for some reason.

How do you cut your fringe? Maybe I can tell you how we do ours if it's a different way and it will get you results you like better.

I really must interact with others much more often, it seems. :)

I only occasionally think about my hair. I wash it, towel-dry it and comb it. That's all most days. The shoulder-length is a pain because it looks like I never really comb my hair (which, if I ever took a normal picture, one might be able to tell in the pictures.

I comb forward a section I want to cut and then hold that part with my in my fist (ASL "a" shape), with my thumb facing my face, my fingernail pointed up. Then, I cut around my thumb at whatever length I think will work. (That might have made zero sense, but it's the best I can do right now.) So, what's your method, Poke?

Please, let's pretend I closed that first set of parentheses. Here: ).

Ok, so the way we do it around here (a la directions from Jacki) is: You pull forward the section you want to cut. Then, holding it all together in the middle of your forehead, twist it pretty tight. While holding the twist at the bottom, cut straight across at the length you'd like. well, a little below really. I usually go around the middle of my eyebrows. Then, taadaa...Fringe!
Does that make any sense at all? I'm reading over it to make sure I didn't miss a step but it doesn't sound as clear as I'd like.

Sounds like it makes sense. I'm afraid that if I cut my hair to the middle of my eyebrows, I'd have the "pixie bangs" my mom once claimed she was intentionally giving me when she cut my hair really, really short. Like, shorter than Audrey Hepburn kind of fring.

However, I shall try this next time, cutting below that just in case, and see how it goes. Thanks!

fring?! "e" where are you?
